STUNT Drops Opener at National Championship

4/24/2025 4:34:00 PM

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — In the first round of the National Championship, the St. Mary's University STUNT team traveled to Nashville to square off with Lone Star Conference rival DBU in the opening round. The Patriots pulled off the 13-5 victory, though the Rattlers pushed in the second half.

DBU won all four points in the first quarter, as the two teams called midrange routines, spanning from two to six.

The Rattlers broke onto the scoreboard, winning the first round of the second quarter. Neither team scored on routine seven, and the Patriots won the final two points in pyramids & tosses for the 6-1 lead at halftime.

StMU won the final two points of the third quarter, jumps & tumbling, for the 8-3 score. The officials originally called a tie on routine four in the third round, but Head Coach Jordan VanTimmeren noticed something, challenged the ruling, and succeeded. The Rattlers carried the momentum into routine seven, winning the point.

The Rattlers added two points during the first two rounds of team routines, winning pyramids & tosses on routine five, and scoring a point on a tie in routine two's jumps & tumbling portion for the 13-5 tally. Due to the length of the National Championship, games are called once a team can't be caught on the scoreboard, so the final two rounds were not completed.

St. Mary's drops to the back side of the bracket and will face fifth-seeded Vanguard at 10 a.m. on Friday, April 25.
