ROCKWALL, Texas — Ninety holes of golf over the last three days weren't quite enough to determine the Lone Star Conference Champion, so No. 9 St. Mary's and No. 4 Dallas Baptist went to a playoff hole in the medal match finals to determine the victor.
DBU grabbed the win on the 18th hole, 23-25, to win its fourth title in the last five years. The Rattlers advanced to the finals with a 3-2 victory over Midwestern State in the semifinals, while DBU defeated West Texas A&M, 4-1.
Sophomore
Savannah Dupre (Boerne, Texas), who won the stroke play individual medalist honors on Tuesday, won by nine strokes, shooting an even-par 72 to defeat Kodi Nolen. Sophomore
Taylor Wilczek (Anthem, Ariz.) posted a round of 73 to win by four strokes over Brecklyn Flanagan, and senior
Libby Kilbride (Sheffield, England) rebounded to shoot a 69 to edge Alli Reily by one stroke. Kilbride did not record a single bogey in the round, sinking three birdies for the second-lowest round of the semifinals.
In the finals, Dupre continued her stellar week, carding an even-par 72 to enter the clubhouse one stroke ahead of Ella Cheek. Dupre trailed by two strokes after three holes, but remained steady, taking the lead on the 14th hole and holding on to win.
Wilczek was down by one stroke after the first hole, but quickly turned things around against Sidney Robertson, evening the score on the second hole and leading by as many as seven strokes late in the round. Wilczek tied her career-low round with a 66.
Both Kilbride and Lone Star Conference Golfer of the Year Gracie Grant totaled 73 in the final round for a tie. Kilbride trailed by six strokes after eight holes, but recorded back-to-back birdies and hit par on the final eight holes for a tie.
The NCAA Division II West Regionals will take place May 5-7 on the La Paloma Course at Tascosa Golf Club in Amarillo, Texas. West Texas A&M will serve as hosts of the regional, and selections will be announced on Monday, April 28.
