COSTA MESA, Calif. — The #11 St. Mary's University STUNT team dropped a pair of games to top-10 ranked teams on Friday night, but the games were much closer than the final scores indicated, losing 22-5 to #7 Concordia Irvine and 21-5 to #6 Vanguard.
The Rattlers move to 8-7 on the season and turn their attention to the Lone Star Conference Championship, which will take place at DBU on March 28-29. The team will be either the two or the three seed, depending on the outcome of a coin flip between StMU and Texas Woman's.
GAME ONE RECAP
StMU earned a tie on routine five in the final performance of quarter one to trail CUI, 4-1.
For the first time this season, the Rattlers won a point on routine six during pyramids & tosses. StMU entered the night 0-3 on the higher-level routine, for the lone point of the second quarter and a 7-2 tally.
The Rattlers won two points in the third quarter, winning routine seven and tying on routine four for the 10-4 score.
The Golden Eagles scored all 12 possible points in the fourth quarter, while the Rattlers scored a tie in the second portion of routine four for the 22-5 final score.

GAME TWO RECAP
Vanguard celebrated its four seniors on the roster prior to the contest, as, like the Rattlers, the Lions wrap up the home portion of their schedule early in the year.
The Lions won the points for the first 10 routines before the Rattlers posted ties in the final two performances of the third quarter on routines six and two to bring the score to 12-2. The vast majority of the points lost in the first 10 routines were minor for StMU, giving the team the knowledge that they can compete with the best in the nation.

Jordan VanTimmeren went for broke in the fourth quarter, calling levels four and seven on her two choices. The Rattlers won the first point of routine four and the first two in seven for the 21-5 final tally.
