RICHARDSON, Texas — For the second time this season, St. Mary's University Men's Golfer
Kongpop Kaikaew has earned the Lone Star Conference Golfer of the Week award.
Kaikaew, a junior from Rayong, Thailand, won the first tournament of his career, helping St. Mary's win the Fujikura Invitational, hosted by Cal State San Marcos. Kaikaew golfed par or better in all three rounds, starting with an even-par 72 on Monday morning, followed by a 69 and 70 to move from a tie for second after day one into the leader position. Kaikaew averaged 2.92 on par-3 scoring to lead the field and ranked third in the field with a 4.42 average on par-5 scoring, which featured five teams in the top 50 among the 13.
He also earned the weekly award on Oct. 10 after placing second at the Ryan Palmer Foundation Invitational with a 198 on the par-70 course. He is currently the top-ranked golfer on the team, ranking No. 67 this week in the Scoreboard powered by Clippd rankings, which is sixth in the Lone Star Conference, and jumps him 66 spots from his final fall ranking of 133.
