RICHARDSON, Texas — For the first time in her career, St. Mary's University Softball player
Madeline Bloom has been named the Lone Star Conference Pitcher of the Week.
Bloom, a senior from Poway, Calif., was exceptional in the circle this week, handing Colorado Christian (7-1) and MSU Denver (9-1) a pair of losses and working scoreless sixth and seventh innings in the 1-0 loss to the Cougars where she retired six batters on only seven pitches. Bloom allowed one earned run in the two games, and the #2 and #3 preseason RMAC teams managed to hit only .130. She threw 62 pitches against CCU before turning the ball over to fellow senior
Savannah Youngblood, who set the StMU career saves record and needed only 60 pitches for a complete game win against MSU Denver.
Bloom is the first Rattler this season to be awarded a weekly honor from the LSC. She and the Rattlers head on the road to start conference play, facing Midwestern State on Friday at 1 p.m. before traveling to West Texas A&M for a Sunday doubleheader.
