Five from Softball Named CSC Academic All-District

SAN ANTONIO — The St. Mary's University Softball team had five student-athletes named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District team in Jadyn Abrego, Lauren Gonzales, Reba Reyes, Raegan Tennill and Savannah Youngblood.
 
The honor evaluates a player's contributions on and off the field. To qualify, a player must have played at least one year at their current institution, maintain a 3.50 GPA, and be a starter or key reserve player.


Abrego, a junior from San Antonio, is a biology major who hit .292 for the season with a 2.79 ERA in the circle. She was 6-8 overall with two complete games and a save. Opponents hit .284 against her and she struck out 32.
 
Gonzales, a senior marketing major from San Antonio, was a third-team All-Conference selection by the Lone Star Conference after leading the league in stolen bases with 37. She hit .317 for the year, making only one error all season in left field.
 
A senior majoring in exercise and sport science, Reyes was named to the Lone Star All-Conference First-Team after hitting .358 for the year. The Brownsville, Texas native led the team with 13 doubles, 11 home runs and four triples. She added seven outfield assists from centerfield and drove in 47 runs.
 
Tennill, who recently wrapped up her sophomore year and is majoring in biology, hit .305 and started all 58 games at third base. She ended third on the team with 54 hits and second with 15 stolen bases. The Corpus Christi native also accumulated eight sacrifice bunts and four sacrifice flies.
 
A junior mechanical engineering major from Kingwood, Texas, Youngblood was named the school's breakout player of the year and a Second-Team All-Lone Star pick after going 11-3 in the circle with four saves in 35 appearances. She led the team with a 2.75 ERA and foes hit only .260 against her.
