STUNT Posts Pair of Huge Wins on Day One of Drury Tourney

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — The St. Mary's University STUNT team kicked off the final tournament of the regular season with a pair of big wins, defeating fourth-ranked Maryville, 12-10 and No. 12 Drury, 16-10.
 
The win over Maryville is the highest-ranked victory in school history, as the Rattlers (8-5) have previously defeated #9 twice.
 
St. Mary's jumped out to a 3-1 lead after the first quarter. The Saints had possession first and called four, which the Rattlers won. StMU hit both routines they called, seven and five for the early lead.
 
Each team scored three points during pyramids and tosses, each winning the routine they called the first time and tying the final two numbers to head into halftime with StMU leading 6-4.
 
In the third quarter, Maryville fought back to tie the score at 7-7 after winning two routines and getting a tie during round three after the Rattlers called six. 
 
The Rattlers buckled down for the fourth quarter, winning two of three points in both routines five and six, splitting one point each in routine seven and each team scoring two in the final routing, number two.
 
In the nightcap, the Rattlers held a one-point lead at halftime but extended their lead in the third and fourth quarters for the 16-10 win over the Panthers.
 
Each team won two rotations in the first quarter for the 2-2 tie, with StMU winning four and three. During pyramids and tosses, the Rattlers edged the Panthers, 3-2 for the 5-4 lead at halftime. StMU won both the initial and final routines, four and five and tied on one.
 
The Rattlers won the first two numbers in jumps and tosses after the halftime break, winning seven and three and tied the final routine of four to push the lead to two points, 8-6.
 
In the fourth quarter, the Gold and Blue outscored the Panthers 3-1 on routine two, 3-1 on routine four and 2-1 on routine one for the final score of 16-10.
 
The regular season wraps up on Sunday against Missouri Baptist at Noon and 3:10 p.m. against Southwest Baptist.
