STUNT Finishes Second at Lone Star Championship

ARGYLE, Texas — At the inaugural Lone Star Conference STUNT Championship, the St. Mary's University Rattlers finished second, defeating Texas Woman's 20-5 in the semifinals before falling to third-ranked DBU by the same score.

The #8 Rattlers (6-5) jumped out to an early lead, scoring three of the four points awarded in the first quarter and then poured on the gas in the fourth quarter, scoring 11 of the 12 points available.

St. Mary's improves to 5-0 all-time against the Pioneers (9-6), who went on to defeat UT Tyler for third place.

Against #3 DBU (10-2), there was a definite championship feel to the air as both teams called higher routines to kick things off. The Patriots started with routine six and won the point, while the Rattlers answered by calling seven and winning for the 1-1 tie. DBU won the third and the teams tied the final routine in partner stunts for the 3-2 Patriots edge after one.

An untimely injury for the Rattlers saw them forfeit two routines during pyramids and tosses and DBU won all four points to begin to pull away. The Rattlers tied routine two in the second performance of quarter three as DBU won the other three routines to bring the score to 11-3. StMU scored two points in the final quarter for the 20-5 final.

St. Mary's has one regular season tournament remaining as they head to Springfield, Mo., to take part in the Drury Tournament, April 6-7. STUNT Nationals will take place April 25-28 in Missouri.
