STUNT Splits Day One at TWU Tournament

DENTON, Texas — Against a pair of Lone Star Conference foes, the St. Mary's University STUNT team split on Friday, defeating UT Tyler 19-1 before dropping a 22-5 decision to third-ranked DBU at the TWU Tournament.

The Rattlers scored the first 15 points of the day, winning three points each in the first two quarters before tying the third portion of routine one in the fourth quarter. The Rattlers came back to win three of the final six points of the final quarter, with no points being awarded in the other three for the 19-1 victory.

The four-point sweep in the third quarter marks the first time this season the Rattlers outright won all four routines in any one stanza. Five other times the team has won three with no points being awarded or won three with a tie. The Gold and Blue also won two and tied two in the third quarter against TWU last week.

The beginning of the match against DBU was drama-filled as the Rattlers called level seven out of the gates and were initially awarded the point. However, the Patriots challenged, and it resulted in a tie. StMU also won level 5 in the third position to end the quarter trailing 3-2. The Patriots won close routines in each of the next two quarters and went on to win 22-5.

The Rattlers face Trivecca Nazarene and Texas Woman's on Saturday at 11:15 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., respectively. With DBU's victory over the Rattlers they also earned the right to host the inaugural Lone Star Conference Championship on March 23.
