DALLAS — Using the strength of their jumps and tumbling, the St. Mary's University STUNT team came back from a one-point halftime deficit to defeat No. 10 Drury 13-9 in the finale of the DBU Patriots Classic on Saturday evening.
Â
"I'm very proud of the team," said Head Coach
Jordan VanTimmeren. "Playing Division I schools is tough, and we had a great weekend of growth and learning. In the first game (against Southern Nazarene), we had a record-high score! I'm happy to bring home two wins against DII team and get to work before the home game."

The Rattlers (2-2) trailed the Panthers 4-3 at halftime but earned a point in all four routines during the third quarter, which is jumps & tumbling. The two teams tied in the second routine (No. 4) to give StMU the 7-5 lead heading into the final quarter.
Â
It is the first time in school history the Rattlers scored four points in the third quarter. Last season, the team scored four points three times, but they all happened in the first quarter (partner stunts).
Â
Each team earned two points in routine two to being the fourth quarter, while the Rattlers outscored the Panthers 2-1 during routine three. StMU took a risk, called routine seven, and completed two of the three sections. However, the judges awarded no points to keep the score at 11-8. Drury called routine one for the final program of the night and the Rattlers won two of three for the 13-9 final.

St. Mary's hosts Texas Woman's on Friday, Feb. 23 at 3 p.m. in the team's first-ever Lone Star Conference contest.Â
