AMARILLO, Texas — A strong second day for the St. Mary's University Women's Golf team lifted them to a second-place finish at the WT D2 West Regional Preview on Tuesday. The Rattlers carded a 299 in the third round for the second-lowest round of the day and a three-round total of 885 to finish behind host West Texas A&M (874).
The Rattlers, currently ranked sixth in the WGCA Coaches poll, moved ahead of No. 12 Cal State San Marcos, UT Tyler and No. 1 DBU in the final round as the Rattlers and Lady Patriots were tied for fourth after two rounds. Cal State San Marcos finished third at 888, while DBU was fourth after combining for an 889. Gam Songprasert from WT won individual medalist honors with a 54-hole total of 210 (72-68-70).
Senior
Libby Kilbride (Sheffield, England) finished among the top five for the second-straight week, placing third with her two-over-par total of 215 (71-72-72). Kilbride has had an extremely strong start to her final season, as all six of her rounds have been 72 or lower.
Sophomore
Savannah Dupre (Boerne, Texas) moved up into a tie for sixth place with her final round of 73. She ended the tournament with a 218 (71-74-73), knotting Sonoma State's Avery Foster, who tied for low-round honors after firing a 70.
Orla O'Leary (Galashiels, Scotland),
Taylor Wilczek (Anthem, Ariz.) and
Madalyn Trevino (San Antonio) all carded rounds of 77 on Tuesday. O'Leary finished in 15th place with her 54-hole total of 223 (73-73-77), while Wilczek moved up two places to 31st with her total of 229 (78-74-77), and Trevino made the largest jump, climbing 12 places to 64th with a 240 (80-83-77).
Competing as an individual, sophomore transfer
Sabree Lefebvre (Riverview, Fla.) carded a 75 in the final round to end in a six-way tie for 51st place with a 235 (83-77-75). She leaped 19 spots up the leaderboard with her best round of the season and had the third-largest jump of the entire field.
The Rattlers now focus on the D2 National Preview at Boulder Creek Golf Club in Las Vegas, Nev., on Oct. 7-8. Nine of the other 13 teams in the field also competed against the Rattlers this week at the West Regional Preview.
