DALLAS – The St. Mary's Women's Golf team wrapped up the 2023 season with a sixth-place finish at the NCAA West Regional on Tuesday.
Â
The schedule was altered late as inclement weather is supposed to hit the metro area on Wednesday, so the teams competed over 36 holes on Tuesday.Â
Â
The Rattlers dropped one place after day one, finishing sixth in the 12-team field. The top four advance to the NCAA Championship in West Texas A&M, DBU, Cal State San Marcos and Cal State East Bay. Point Loma narrowly edged out the Gold & Blue for fifth place, shooting an 887 compared to 888 for StMU.
Â
St. Mary's says goodbye to only one senior in
Jordyn Wray (San Antonio). She shot a 72 in the morning and shot a 76 in her final collegiate round to place 27th at 223. Wray was even on the par 3s throughout the tournament, tying for the fifth best performance in the field.Â
Â
Sophomore
Libby Kilbride (Sheffield, England) led the team, carding a 219 (70-76-73). It is the second-lowest 54-hole total of her career, two strokes off her best of 217 from the opening tournament of the year in Amarillo. Kilbride collected 39 pars over the two days, which is the third highest total at the Golf Club of Dallas.
Â
Senior
Rebecca Reed (Midland, Texas), who has elected to return for her fifth "Covid Season" tied for 24th place after shooting 221 (74-74-73). Reed shot par in eight of her final nine holes to take one stroke off her previous two rounds. She was one of the leaders in the tournament, posting a -2 in par 5s.
Â
Senior
Estelle Beck (Lakeway, Texas) who will also return for the 2023-24 season, saved her best round for last, posting an even par 70 in the final 18 holes to tally a 225 (78-77-70) for the tournament and tie for 30th place. Beck started the final round with back-to-back birdies on holes eight and nine, making a four-stroke improvement from the second round and a three-stroke improvement from Monday on those two holes alone.
Â
Improving her score with each round, sophomore
Madalyn Trevino (San Antonio) totaled 239 over three rounds (81-80-78) to finish 62nd. The 239 strokes ties for her second-lowest 54-hole total of the season, trailing only the 233 she recorded at the DBU Women's Classic back in September.
Â
Alyssa Campbell from West Texas A&M took home individual medalist honors and DBU won the team title, beating the Lady Buffs in the first hole of a sudden death playoff as both teams totaled 841 over the scheduled 54 holes.
