Opening Tip

•    St. Mary's advances to its first-ever STUNT National Championship and is the only first year team in the seven-team field. The Rattlers take on 2022 finalist Oklahoma Baptist in the opening round. In the double elimination tournament, StMU will face either Maryville or DBU in the second game.

•    The Rattlers are ranked #7 in the STUNT national rankings by USA Cheer out of 12 teams in Division II. The Southwest Conference has three teams ranked in the top seven as Oklahoma Baptist is #2 and DBU is #6.

•    St. Mary's wrapped up its first year of competition with a 5-4 overall record and a 4-2 mark in Southwest Conference play. The Rattlers won their last four games, including sweeping their inaugural St. Mary's Tournament with wins over Texas Woman's (12-7) and UT Tyler (15-2).

•    St. Mary's has done a great job of jumping out to the early lead, as they have only lost one routine in the first quarter of the last six games. The Rattlers are outscoring opponents 19-2 (one tie) over that stretch in the opening period.

•    During the first three quarters, the Rattlers have outscored the opposition 12-5-2 in routine two. StMU has scored the most points during quarter one, routine one with seven points (7-3).

•    The entire 2023 STUNT National Championship will be aired on FloCheer.com. There is a subscription charge to watch the matches.

•    St. Mary's is one of seven new STUNT programs in NCAA for 2023, bringing the total to 24 NCAA Varsity programs with 16 at the club levels.

•    NCAA Division II recently classified STUNT as an emerging sport for women. An emerging sport is a women's sport recognized by the NCAA that is intended to help schools provide more athletics opportunities for women and more sport-sponsorship options for the institutions, and also help that sport achieve NCAA championship status.

•    The Rattlers join DBU, Texas Woman's and UT Tyler from the DII ranks in Texas to offer the sport. All three schools compete in the Southwest Conference, along with Oklahoma Baptist.

•    StMU has eight student-athletes from San Antonio or neighboring towns and 18 of the 19 student-athletes hail from the state of Texas.
