Opening Tip
• The St. Mary's season officially gets underway on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. in the DBU Tournament against the host, Patriots.
• The Rattlers took part in an exhibition on Jan. 22, defeating Texas Woman's 13-12 in Denton.
• The Oklahoma City Tournament scheduled for March 3-4 has been moved to Brink Junior High School due to flooding at Oklahoma City University.
• Each game of STUNT consists of four quarters of play, with a halftime. The first quarter is partner stunts, the second quarter is pyramids and tosses, the third quarter is group jumps and tumbling and the fourth quarter is team performance. The first three quarters consist of four rounds, while the fourth quarter has three rounds. There is one point awarded to the winner of each round and both teams receive a point if the round ends in a tie.
• A standard partner stunt group is four athletes; two bases, a back spot, and a top. Routines 1, 2, and 3 require three groups, routines 4, 5, and 6 require two groups and routines 7 and 8 require one group.
• In pyramids and tosses routines, routines 1 and 2 require twelve athletes and routines 3 through 8 require sixteen athletes. All jumps & tumbling routines require seven athletes.
• St. Mary's is one of seven new STUNT programs in NCAA for 2023, bringing the total to 24 NCAA Varsity programs with 16 at the club levels.
• The Rattlers join DBU, Texas Woman's and UT Tyler from the DII ranks in Texas to offer the sport.
• StMU has eight student-athletes from San Antonio or neighboring towns and 18 of the 19 student-athletes hail from the state of Texas. Riley Smith is the lone exception, joining StMU from Canyon Lake, Calif.
