Wrapping Up: The St. Mary's Volleyball team plays its final match of the season, hosting Texas A&M Kingsville on Wednesday for Faculty/Staff Appreciation Night. The team will have their favorite professor or staff member with them during introductions and present them with a certificate of appreciation.
Series History: The Rattlers cling to a one-match lead in the all-time series, 32-31 and are looking to snap a nine-match losing streak to Texas A&M Kingsville on Wednesday. StMU was swept by the Javelinas earlier this season at the LSC Tournament Preview in Kingsville.
Moving On Up: With the win over UT Tyler on Friday, Head Coach Laura Ulrich moved into a tie for sixth all-time on the coaching victories list with 39. Ulrich is tied with Stephanie Armstrong, who coached from 2017-2020.
Making the Most: Freshman Olivia Rubio made the most of her time on the court this week, smashing a career-best nine kills in the win over UT Tyler, hitting .571 (9-1-14) and leading the team with four blocks. Rubio entered the match with three kills on the year and tripled that total.
Serving Notice: St. Mary's has 153 aces this season, which jumps to the fifth-most during the rally scoring era (2008-current). The squad is 18 shy of the modern record of 171 by last year's team. The Rattlers rank seventh in the Lone Star Conference with 1.58 aces per set. Sophomore libero Alyssa Koehl leads the team with 33 aces, which ranks sixth on the St. Mary's rally scoring list and is 13 shy of the record of 46 by Monica Ramon in 2017.
Jumping Johnson: Sophomore Dallasstar Johnson continued her move up the career charts in both block assists and total blocks. Johnson now has 154 block assists for 18th, while she now ranks 19th with 177 total blocks. Johnson is two solo blocks away from tying Alyssa Werner (1997-98) for 20th on career charts with 25.
Super Koehl: Sophomore libero Alyssa Koehl earned the team's first Lone Star Conference Player of the Week honor last week, earning the Defensive nod after recording 22 digs in each match. She had a career-high 40 receptions in the team's first-ever win over UT Tyler and added six aces on 34 serves with no errors all weekend. Her four aces ties for the fifth-most in a five-set match in school history.
Point, Rattlers: Both sophomores Dallasstar Johnson and Landri Withers are tied for the team lead with 245.5 points each, while junior Alicia Virthe is right behind them with 221.5. Points in volleyball are awarded one each for kills, aces, block solos and 1/2 per block assist.
You're All Set: Junior Cali Nims recorded the 1,500th assist of her career on Friday and now has 1,537, needing just seven more to move into a tie for seventh on the all-time lists at St. Mary's (1544, Kori McCarver, 2007-10). Nims also jumped one spot into 18th on the career service aces list with 83 and one more will knot her with Katelyn Kershner (2008-10) for 17th.
