Quartet of Softball Players Earn All-Conference Honors

TYLER, Texas – On the eve of the Lone Star Conference Softball Championship, the league announced its award winners for 2022 and St. Mary's had four players earn a total of six awards.
 
Senior Jayme Johns (Elgin, Texas) earned First-Team All-Conference honors, while fellow Elgin senior Victoria Aldridge was named to both the Second Team and a Golden Glove winner. Junior pitcher Catalina Cavazos (Houston) joined Aldridge on the Second Team, while senior Tiffany Licon (Austin, Texas) was named to the Third Team and the Golden Glove squad.
 
Johns, a stalwart at second base for the Rattlers the last four seasons, ranks third in the Lone Star Conference in hits and sixth in batting average. She has reached base in 44 of her 48 games this season and leads the squad with a .474 on-base percentage.
 
Aldridge was named to the Golden Glove team after making 91 putouts with seven assists and no errors in 51 games. She started 50 games in left field and one behind the plate for the Rattlers and is second on the team with a .380 batting average. She is one of the league leaders with 28 walks drawn and ranks seventh in the league with her 60 hits.
 
Cavazos made an immediate impact to the Rattlers after transferring from San Jacinto Junior College, going 18-3 with a 2.06 ERA. She has thrown five shutouts and 14 complete games in her 26 appearances. Her 18 victories rank fourth in the league and she ranks 7th allowing only 1.52 walks per 7 innings pitched.
 
Licon has been a ball magnet at the hot corner, making only three errors in 173 chances, earning Golden Glove honors. She has also been a part of five double plays this season. Offensively, Licon has had the best year of her career, hitting .326 and ranking 14th in all of Division II in toughest to strike out, doing so only four times in 141 at bats, helping her earn Third Team All-Conference honors.
 
The Rattlers kick off the 2022 Lone Star Conference Tournament at 11 a.m. on Thursday, squaring off against rival St. Edward's for the fifth time this year.
