Softball to Wrap Up Regular Season In Austin

First Pitch

•    The doubleheader Saturday will be the final regular season games of the year for both teams. The Rattlers have already clinched a spot in the Lone Star Conference Tournament, while the Hilltoppers are battling for the final position.

•    These will be the first games since April 3 against an unranked team as the Rattlers played 10 straight against teams ranked in the top 15.

•    The Rattlers swept a non-conference doubleheader against the Hilltoppers on Feb. 27, winning 2-1 in 10 innings and 1-0.

•    St. Mary's owns a 112-53 record against St. Edward's and they are 39-31 in Austin.

•    St. Mary's is 6-10 this season against teams ranked in the top 25 in the country.

•    Senior Tiffany Licon is one of the hardest hitters in the nation to strike out. She currently is second in the Lone Star Conference and is 20th nationally, striking out once every 33.5 at bats.

•    Freshman Savannah Youngblood is currently tied for the Lone Star Conference lead and ranks sixth in St. Mary's single season history with her four saves. Her total also ties her for ninth in the nation.

•    Senior Abigale Carney leads the Rattlers with 10 home runs, needing one more to tie her career-high of 11 from a season ago. One more would also knot Carney for fourth on the school's career charts.

•    Junior Catalina Cavazos is currently fourth in the Lone Star and 33rd in the nation with her 17 victories. Those 17 wins are the most for a Rattler since Staci Johns won 17 in 2019.

•    The Rattlers are outscoring opponents 81-27 in the first two innings of games this season and are 27-9 when they score first.

•    Senior Jayme Johns is tied for fourth in the Lone Star Conference with 59 hits and is ninth with her .407 batting average.

•    Not only did head coach Donna Fields win the 1,000th game of her career this season, but she's led the program to its 1,400th victory.

•    The Rattlers have played clean baseball this season, ranking second in the conference and 10th in the nation in fielding percentage at .975. StMU has half as many errors as its opponents, committing 34 compared to 70 by its foes.

•    Seniors Abigale Carney and Tiffany Licon are the only two players on the roster to start all 49 games at the same position this season. Victoria Aldridge has started all 49 as well, with 48 in left field and one behind the dish.
