Bats go to Work for Baseball Before Darkness Halts Game Two

LAREDO, Texas – The St. Mary's Baseball team snapped a seven-game losing streak and was looking for a doubleheader sweep when game two was postponed in the top of the sixth due to darkness.

The Rattlers won the first game 14-9, scoring the 14 runs on 18 hits, while the Dust Devils scored nine runs on 13 hits to even the series at one game each.

Five different players recorded multiple hits for the Gold & Blue, led by a 4-for-5 day from shortstop Jake Mares (Fort Worth, Texas) and 3-for-5 performances by senior Brandon Broughton (Corpus Christi, Texas) and junior Clay Bradford (Atascocita, Texas).

Broughton hit a pair of doubles as well as a three-run home run in the game, while Bradford tripled and Mares added a double. Junior Rudy Solis (El Paso, Texas) was also 2-for-2 with a pair of walks, he got hit by a pitch and scored three times.

Senior Steven Medrano (El Paso) pitched two innings in a no decision. He allowed seven runs on six hits with one walk and three strikeouts, while John Curtis (Athens, Tenn.) worked one inning and juniors Josh Buske (San Antonio) and Anthony Chavez (El Paso) each pitched two frames.
