Men's Soccer Continues Lone Star Play

Wednesday, October 5 • San Antonio • Sigma Beta Chi Field
DBU (2-3-4, 1-0) at #18 St. Mary's (5-0-4, 1-0) • 7 p.m.

Saturday, October 8 • Odessa • UTPB Soccer Field
#18 St. Mary's at UT Permian Basin (2-2-3, 0-0-1) • 3 p.m.

Four Straight: For the next four weeks, the St. Mary's Men's Soccer team will play a home game on Wednesday followed by a road game on Saturday in Lone Star Conference play. The Rattlers host DBU before traveling to UT Permian Basin. StMU defeated both teams earlier this season, 2-0 and 3-0, respectively.

In Search of 50: The next win for Head Coach Johnny Clifford will be the 50th of his career. Clifford currently ranks fourth in St. Mary's history with his 49 victories and two more will knot him for third with Lance Noble who was 51-23-2 from 1996-99.

Clean Sweep: St. Mary's won all three Lone Star Conference Players of the Week this week as Sebastian Rivera was named the offensive player, Lewis Wilson earned his second defensive player and Andre Schlaefli was tabbed goalkeeper of the week for the second time. Rivera becomes the first offensive award for the Rattlers this season, while StMU has won the defensive award five times - every week the team has been active. Ariel Cardozo, Andrick Ferrer and Bradley Greene have also earned POW honors this season.

Holding Steady: The Rattlers remained #18 in this week's United Soccer Coaches Association poll. This is the highest the Rattlers have been ranked since third week of the 2020 season and is the 19th week the team has appeared in the top 25 since week one of 2018.

Series History: The Rattlers hold a commanding 28-7 lead in the all-time series against DBU after winning in Dallas two weeks ago. StMU has won 10 of the last 11 meetings against the Patriots. With the win last week, St. Mary's is now 22-10 all-time against UT Permian Basin and has won six straight over the Falcons.

Tough Line:
• The Rattlers defense has not surrendered a goal in the last 645 minutes of action and has only given up two in nine games.
• St. Mary's leads the nation in save percentage (.933), shutout percentage (.778) and goals against average (0.222). The Rattlers also lead the Lone Star Conference in assists/game (2.00), goal differential (+16) and shots/game (16.67).
• The seven shutouts on the year is tied for the third most in Division II and is three behind leaders Franklin Pierce with 10.
• St. Mary's has allowed only two goals all season, which is tied for the lead in all of Division II with Davis & Elkins.
• The seven consecutive shutouts shatters the school record of four straight from the 2002 season

Tough Slate: According to the NCAA, St. Mary's has the 9th toughest schedule in all of Division II this season. In the Lone Star, the Rattlers trail only West Texas A&M (#2).
