Box Score WACO, Texas – The St. Mary's University Men's Tennis team dropped its first match of the weekend at the Waco Regional Tennis Center as they fell to No. 15 Hawaii Hilo, 5-2.
Saisaurav Konakanchi and
Leon Hein picked up the sole win in doubles action for the Rattlers as they came from behind to defeat the opposition, 7-6.
"We were very flat in the doubles but were able to gain momentum when Sai and Leon made a nice comeback," said Director of Tennis
Bill Macom.
Alex Gee and
Louis Bonnay won at No. 2 and No. 4 singles, respectively. Both Alex and Louis came back to win the final two sets after falling in the first set.
"We did not get into a good rhythm in any of the first sets and that dug us into a hole in most of the singles matches," continued Macom. "Alex and Louie played excellent tennis in their second and third sets but obviously we need more from everyone to beat a top 15 team."
The Rattlers will conclude play in Waco on Sunday as they take on No. 22 Southeastern Oklahoma State University. The match originally scheduled for 12:00 p.m. has been moved up to 11:00 a.m. due to rain moving into the Waco area.
