@StMUsoftball to open South Central Regional against familiar foe

By Chad Peters | St. Mary's Athletics Communications

SAN ANTONIO — The NCAA Division II South Central Softball Regional field is set — and the St. Mary's Rattlers will see a familiar playoff foe in the opening round.

The No. 3-seeded Rattlers (42-14) will open against No. 6 seed Texas Woman's (33-19) at 4 p.m. Thursday in the South Central Region 2 bracket at the site of No. 2 seed West Texas A&M (42-9) in Canyon, Texas. It marks the third consecutive postseason that St. Mary's and Texas Woman's have met in the regional tournament.

Regional host West Texas A&M will hold the South Central Region 2 bracket at Schaeffer Park in Canyon, Texas. No. 7 Tarleton State (35-20) is also in the field and will open against WTAMU.

Angelo State, the top-seeded team in the entire region, will host the South Central Region 1 bracket in San Angelo, Texas, where No. 4 Colorado Mesa, No. 5 Cameron and No. 8 Lubbock Christian also are in the field.

The winners of the South Central Regions 1 and 2 will meet up in next week's Super Regional for the right to advance to the World Series.

St. Mary's, which is trying to advance to the Super Regional for the fourth straight year, split a pair of games against Texas Woman's earlier this season. The Rattlers dropped the opener 7-4 before winning the nightcap by the same score. Over the past two postseasons, St. Mary's is 3-0 against the Pioneers, including a nail-biting, eight-inning victory in the final of last year's regional.

Live stats for the Rattlers' regional opener are available here, while a live stream can be viewed here.
