Medina's grand slam - 3rd of season - blasts Rattlers past OPSU

GRUVER, Texas — Miranda Medina hit her third grand slam of the season as No. 3 St. Mary's Softball routed Oklahoma Panhandle State, 13-4, on Thursday evening.

Medina's grand slam highlighted a six-run seventh inning that broke open what had been a competitive game against the Aggies.

Alena Moreno was a perfect 4 for 4 at the plate with one RBI and two runs scored, while Hannah Michel went 3 for 5 in the game with an RBI and run scored. Medina scored two runs on one hit, finishing with a team-leading four RBI. Alessandra Ortiz also drove in a pair of runs.

OPSU took a quick 2-0 lead after tacking on a run in each of the first two innings, but the Rattler bats then awakened, scoring in every inning thereafter — including producing multiple runs in all but the fourth inning.

The teams will conclude their Heartland Conference series with a doubleheader Friday morning beginning at 9 a.m.
