Everything clicks as Rattlers blank Houston-Victoria

VICTORIA, Texas — Victor Garza IV and Troy Garcia worked a shutout on the mound, and the St. Mary's bats sprinkled in the necessary run support to defeat Houston-Victoria 5-0 on Tuesday.

Matt Smith drove in two runs, while Bryan Ramirez and Jack Kaiser added an RBI apiece as St. Mary's improved to 6-4 on the season.

Garza collected his first victory on the mound, fanning two and walking two while scattering four hits over six innings. Garcia added three scoreless, hitless innings in relief.

St. Mary's scored three runs in the third inning, which was all the Rattlers would need with Garza and Garcia in a groove on the mound. For good measure, St. Mary's added a fourth run in the sixth and made it 5-0 in the eighth.

St. Mary's will return to action Friday for the start of a three-game homestand against crosstown school Our Lady of the Lake. Game 1 begins at 4 p.m. Friday at Dickson Stadium.
