Baseball's Ramirez named Heartland Hitter of the Week

SAN ANTONIO — Newcomer Bryan Ramirez didn't take long to make his mark felt for St. Mary's Baseball.

Ramirez, a junior transfer playing his first year with the Rattlers, has been named the Heartland Conference Hitter of the Week, the league announced Monday.

Ramirez batted .444 with six runs scored and three RBI to open up the season, helping the Rattlers (2-1) win their series against Arkansas Tech, 2-1.

Ramirez, starting all three games at second base, totaled four hits in nine plate appearances, while also walking twice and getting hit-by-pitch three times. He also committed zero errors in the field on five putouts.

A native of Pharr, Texas, Ramirez spent his first two seasons at the University of Texas-Pan American.

The Rattlers will return to the diamond Friday, when they take on St. Cloud State at the Houston Astros' Minute Maid Park in tournament play hosted by Central Missouri.
