Sardelich, Gutierrez Touchtone named league Player, Pitcher of Year

SAN ANTONIO — Five Rattlers from the St. Mary's Softball squad were selected All-Conference including Nicole Sardelich as the Heartland Conference Player of the Year and Vianna Gutierrez Touchtone as the Heartland Conference Pitcher of the Year, the league announced today.
 
Third baseman Sardelich (Sr., Angleton, Texas) and ace Gutierrez Touchtone (Sr., San Antonio) were also named All-Conference First Team in addition to being named the Heartland Conference Player and Pitcher of the Year, respectively.
 
Joining Sardelich and Gutierrez Touchtone on the All-Conference First Team were fellow seniors Taylor Vidrine (San Antonio) and Haley Richter (Hondo, Texas) while first-year RSAN ANTONIO — Five Rattlers from the St. Mary's Softball squad were selected All-Conference including Nicole Sardelich as the Heartland Conference Player of the Year and Vianna Gutierrez Touchtone as the Heartland Conference Pitcher of the Year, the league announced today.attler Sydney Wellmann (Jr., Brenham, Texas) was named All-Conference Second Team.
 
Sardelich, currently four hits away from breaking the program's all-time hits record, has now earned two Heartland Conference Player of the Year awards on her career and has been selected All-Conference First Team each of her four-year career.
 
The All-Conference selections for Gutierrez Touchtone and left fielder Vidrine were also their fourth straight with the First Team selections this season being each their third First Team selections on their careers.
 
Gutierrez Touchtone, named an NFCA National Player of the Year Finalist, is currently 23-4 on the year with her Heartland Conference Pitcher of the Year honor being her first on her career and eighth for the St. Mary's Softball program.
 
First baseman Richter's All-Conference First Team selection for the 2015 season is her second First Team selection on her career and designated hitter Wellmann enjoyed a banner season in her first year as a Rattler to be named All-Conference Second Team.
 
The Rattlers, backed by five, star-studded All-Conference selectees, ended the regular season as co-Champions with an overall record of 39-9 and a league record of 19-4 and now look ahead to the start of postseason play.
 
The Rattlers, currently ranked No. 2 in the latest NCAA South Central Region poll, host the Heartland Conference Championship Tournament starting Thursday, facing No. 4-seeded Newman at 4 p.m. at The Park at St. Mary's. For complete tournament details, check the Tournament Central Page.
