OKLAHOMA CITY — No. 13 St. Mary's Baseball clinched the series against Oklahoma Christian Saturday with a blowout, 8-0 victory over the Eagles that was backed by a strong performance on the mound.

After totaling just seven hits for Friday's doubleheader split with OC, the Rattlers pounded for 17 hits Saturday with seven Rattlers recording a multiple-hit day against a seven-man pitching rotation from the Eagles.

Tied as the No. 1 team in the Heartland Conference, the win improved the Snakes to 30-10 on the season and 17-4 in league play.

The first seven bats in StMU's lineup cracked at least two hits including Derek Hamilton (RS-Sr., Lake Jackson, Texas) who went an impressive 4 for 5 at the plate.

Scott Jones (Sr., College Station, Texas), Brooks Orton (Sr., Cedar City, Utah), AJ Perez (Jr., Alice, Texas), Mario Maldonado (Sr., Laredo, Texas), Bryce Brandl (RS-Fr., El Campo, Texas) and Matt Smith (Jr., Austin, Texas) all picked up two hits while Perez, Brandl and Smith also all picked up two RBIs apiece.

In the seven-Eagle rotation on the hill, the Snakes smacked four doubles and saw a highlight in the fourth when Smith went yard for a solo home run.

The 8-0 blowout supported a shutout performance from starting pitcher Cody Butler (Sr., Baytown, Texas) who went eight scoreless innings with four strikeouts while scattering four hits.

Butler's win improved his record to 8-2 on the season and saw his ERA improve to 2.48 against the Eagles (25-16, 11-10 in conference).

Connor Camacho (Jr., Pilot Point, Texas) closed out the game for the combined shutout, tossing one inning and striking out two of his three batters faced.

The Rattlers will look to chart a win over regional contender Tarleton State at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Stephenville, Texas.
