No. 35 Rattlers remain undefeated in Heartland with win over UAFS

By Ruben Domginguez | St. Mary's Athletics Communications

DALLAS — Back-to-back wins summed up the weekend for Rattler Men's Tennis as it capped off its road trip with a 7-2 win over University of Arkansas-Fort Smith Saturday.

The No. 35 team in the nation stayed undefeated in Heartland Conference play defeating the Lions, and the win will now set the Snakes up with a winner-take-all bout with St. Edwards on Tuesday for the Heartland Conference regular-season title.

StMU took two of three doubles matches before heading into singles play against UAFS.

Sean Manning and Ryan Heslop defeated the Rattlers' Richard Foley (So., Virginia, County Cavan, Ireland) and Joshua Mosseri (So., Montreal) in a close 9-7 match at No. 3.

The Rattlers were able to regroup and take the other two doubles matches as Adam Dockery (So., Wichita Falls, Texas) and Brien Galon (Jr., San Antonio) won 8-4 over Chris Ramirez and Jesse Green at No. 1 and Michael Maciel (So, Sugar Land, Texas) and Matt Banner (Jr., Mason, Texas) won convincingly over Grady McCain and Seth Laster, 8-2, at No. 2.

Heading into singles, the confidence was riding high and the Rattlers capitalized as they only lost one of six singles matches on way to victory.

The lone loss came as Luke Keller (Jr., San Antonio) was defeated by Manning 6-3, 6-2 for Manning's second victory of the day.

But it came to no avail as the other Rattlers sealed the win.

Dockery and Galon won in straight sets over Josh Coleman and JT Tasker, respectively with sophomore Dockery by a score of 6-4, 6-4 and the latter 6-2, 6-1.

Mosseri also won in straight sets, but did it winning a second set tiebreaker as he defeated Laster 6-2, 7-6 (3) at No. 5.

After both dropping their first sets by a score of 6-3, Maciel and Foley won their second sets, 7-5 and 6-4, respectively, and ultimately the third set tiebreaker to round out the results for the Rattlers on the day.

St. Mary's improved their record to 7-8 and the aforementioned "Battle of the Saints will take place on April 14 at Rohrbach Stadium. First serve is scheduled for 3 p.m.
