CLAREMORE, Okla. — No. 25 St. Mary's Baseball played catch up for the first time in the three-game series with Rogers State in the finale Monday but were able to overpower the Hillcats, 8-6, to sweep the series and chart its 11th straight victory.

The series sweep over Rogers State puts the No. 25 Rattlers on a perfect 3-0 start to Heartland Conference play and improved them to 15-4 overall with Monday's win for an 11-game winning streak.

In 2011, the Rattlers went on 17-game winning streak.

The Hillcats (7-8, 0-3 in conference) jumped out early on the Rattlers Monday, scoring three runs in their first at-bat backed by a two-run homer.

The Rattlers began to chip away at the deficit with one run in the fourth off an RBI-single from Keith Funk (RS-Jr., San Antonio).

The Snakes then exploded in the sixth, scoring six runs to overtake the lead 7-3 that included two squeeze plays from Funk and AJ Perez (Jr., Alice, Texas), an RBI-fielder's choice from Brooks Orton (Sr., Cedar City, Utah), an RBI-single from Derek Hamilton (RS-Sr., Lake Jackson, Texas) and a two-RBI double from Matt Smith (Jr., Austin, Texas).

Mario Maldonado (Sr., Laredo, Texas) tacked on one more run in the Rattlers' last at-bat, creating needed separation as the Hillcats nearly came back in the ninth after scoring two runs to give the final score of 8-6.

Starting pitcher Cody Butler (Sr., Baytown, Texas) picked up the win on the hill to improve to 3-1 on the season, tossing seven innings with an impressive 10 strikeouts that set a new season high for the lefty.

Connor Camacho (Jr., Pilot Point, Texas) pitched 1 1/ 3 innings to close out the game, picking up his first career save as a Rattler.

The Rattlers recorded nine hits in the victory with Smith leading at the plate after going 3 for 5 that included two doubles with two runs scored and two RBIs.

Funk also shared the team's RBI lead as the catcher also put up two RBIs in the win.

The Rattlers return home to start a three-game series with Lubbock Christian with a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m. Friday at Dickson Stadium.
