By Robin Johnson | St. Mary's Athletics Communications

GOODWELL, Okla. — No. 8 St. Mary's Baseball finished its sweep over Oklahoma Panhandle State, blowing out the Aggies 9-0 in the series finale Saturday to remain the No. 1 team in the Heartland Conference.

The 9-0 blowout puts the Snakes on a 17-game winning streak which ties the longest win streak for the program since the 2011 season, improving them to 21-4 overall.

The series sweep over the Aggies is the Rattlers' third straight sweep of a Heartland opponent for a perfect 9-0 record in league play to keep them as the No. 1 team in the conference.

Cody Butler (Sr., Baytown, Texas) and Connor Camacho (Jr., Pilot Point, Texas) combined efforts on the hill for the shutout with Butler putting in a quality start, tossing 6 2/3 innings with eight strikeouts with just three Aggie hits.

Camacho took over for the final 2 1/3 innings, keeping the Aggies (3-22, 2-7 in conference) hitless while striking out four.

The Rattlers started producing runs in their very first at-bat, scoring two runs in the first off an RBI-single from Derek Hamilton (Sr., Lake Jackson, Texas) and an RBI-fielder's choice from AJ Perez (Sr., Alice, Texas).

StMU would score again the fifth off a two-RBI homer from Brooks Orton (Sr., Cedar City, Utah), his second homer of the series, and chart runs for the next three consecutive innings to give the final, 9-0 score.

The nine-hit victory saw Orton, Hamilton and Mario Maldonado (Sr., Laredo, Texas) all record two hits apiece with Orton going 2 for 4 with a team-high three runs scored and two RBIs.

The Rattlers will continue on the road to take on Texas-Permian Basin in a three-game series starting with a doubleheader at 1 p.m. Friday in Odessa, Texas.
