By Robin Johnson | St. Mary's Athletics Communications

SAN ANTONIO — No. 22 St. Mary's Baseball captured its 14th straight victory and second Heartland Conference series sweep with its run-rule, 11-1 victory in eight innings over Lubbock Christian Saturday.

The lopsided win improved the No. 22 Rattlers to 18-4 on the season and a perfect 6-0 record in league play as the No. 1 team in the Heartland Conference.

The Rattlers' 14-game winning streak is the program's longest since the 2011 season when the Snakes charted 17 straight wins.

Cody Butler (Sr., Baytown, Texas) improved to 4-1 on the season, tossing his third complete game on the season with nine strikeouts against the Chaps (10-11, 3-4 in conference).

Butler allowed just three hits for his eight-inning outing, allowing one earned run to improve his ERA to 2.97.

At the plate, No. 9 hitter Scott Jones (Sr., College Station, Texas) and the Rattlers' leadoff man Brooks Orton (Sr., Cedar City, Texas) erased the Chaps' 1-0 lead taken in the first with an RBI-single from Jones followed by a two-RBI double from Orton to give the Rattlers a 3-1 lead in the second.

The Rattlers took advantage of two Chap errors in the fifth, tacking on four more runs with Matt Smith (Jr., Austin, Texas) adding two more runs in the sixth on a two-RBI single.

The eighth saw two more Rattler runs with an RBI-double from AJ Perez (Jr., Alice, Texas) and Smith capping off the run-rule with the Rattlers' 11th run off a sacrifice fly.

The Snakes smacked 10 hits in their 14th straight victory with Perez leading with three hits followed by Jones and Orton with two.

The Rattlers will remain at Dickson Stadium to take on Eastern New Mexico at 4 p.m. Tuesday.
