TUCSON, Ariz. — St. Mary's dominance in the circle continued Saturday, as Vianna Gutierrez Touchtone and Veronica Garcia combined to pitch the shutout in a 9-0 blanking of East Central at the NFCA Division II Leadoff Classic.

The Rattlers used a five-run explosion in the seventh inning to put the finishing touches on the blowout victory, which improved St. Mary's to 3-0 on the season.

Later in the day, the Rattlers upset No. 4-ranked Southeastern Oklahoma State 9-3. Backed by a five-run fourth inning from her batters, Hope Russell picked up the victory in the circle to improve to 2-0 on the season.

Against East Central, Gutierrez Touchtone and Nicole Sardelich each went yard in the game, marking the second home run in three games for Sardelich. Gutierrez Touchtone went 2 for 2 with three RBIs at the plate, while Sardelich went 2 for 4 with two runs scored. Haley Richter added two RBIs and three runs scored on a 2-for-4 outing.

Making her first collegiate at-bat for St. Mary's, Garcia drove in the ninth and final run on an RBI single.

Gutierrez Touchtone and Garcia combined to allow just four hits as Gutierrez Touchtone picked up the victory — her second on the season — after going five strong innings.

Sardelich, Richter and Taylor Vidrine all doubled in the game.

The Rattlers will continue tournament play with two more games Saturday.
