Rattlers soar up leaderboard to finish 3rd at StMU Invitational

SAN ANTONIO — After sitting in ninth place after Monday's first round, the Rattlers' men's golf team rallied to finish third at the St. Mary's Invitational at the Dominion Country Club Tuesday.

St. Mary's shot the lowest team total of the day with a 292, one shot better than the team champion, Rogers State. Texas-Tyler's Dayton Cargill was the top finisher of the competition with his two day total of 146.

As far as the Rattlers were concerned, Jonathan Ledger (So., Brisbane, Queensland, Australia) carded the lowest round of all the competitors in Tuesday's final round with his 69 to finish fourth in the competition. It ties the low score for his career, matching the 69 he carded at last year's St. Edward's Invitational in March 2014.

Two shots behind Ledger was Arcadio Ramos Jr. (Jr., Laredo, Texas) with his 71, good enough to see him finish in a tie for seventh.

J.T. Caldorola (Jr., San Antonio) and Javier Villanueva (Atizapan, Estado de Mexico, Mexico) also carded rounds in the 70s with the first shooting a 74 — good enough for a tie for 19^th place — and the latter turning in a 78, placing him in a tie for 44^th.

Rounding out the total for the Rattlers was Kirby Gorzell (Jr., San Antonio) who finished his tournament with a second-round 80 that saw him end in a tie for 67^th.

The men will hit the course again on March 9-10 when they travel to Austin, Texas to compete in the St. Edward's Invitational at Onion Creek Country Club.
