Elias, Porter spearhead @StMUWBB rout of Arkansas-Monticello

SAN ANTONIO — There was no Thanksgiving hangover for the St. Mary's Rattlers as they defeated Arkansas-Monticello 80-59 in day one of the St. Mary's Thanksgiving Classic on Friday.

The Rattlers were led by the backcourt duo of Arysia Porter (Fr., San Antonio) and Dezirae Elias (Sr., Chandler, Ariz.). Porter finished with 16 points, three rebounds and three steals while the veteran Elias topped the stat sheet with a game-high 23 points on 9-of-12 shooting, six steals, six boards and four dimes.

Kiara Etheridge (Jr., San Antonio) put together her fourth double-double this season scoring 13 points and grabbing a team-high 11 rebounds.

Leading throughout, St. Mary's opened strong on the defensive end, holding UAM to eight points in the opening frame, outscoring the visitors 19-8. By the half, the Rattlers opened up a 16 point edge that grew thanks to contributions off the bench from Haley Richter (Sr., Hondo, Texas) and Mariah Lee (Sr., Houston, Texas).

Richter scored all eight of her points in the third quarter, knocking down consecutive three pointers. Lee added six points on perfect 3-for-3 shooting.

With the victory, St. Mary's has won four straight as it looks ahead to a date with Missouri S&T on the final day of the Thanksgiving Classic, Saturday at 5:15.
