ATLANTA — The St. Mary's University Women's Basketball team received special mention on the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Academic Top 25 on Tuesday.
The Rattlers posted a 3.551 GPA, missing the top 25 by 0.156, earning special mention for the first time in several years. Mercy owned the top GPA in NCAA Division II with a 3.853, while StMU has the fourth-best GPA of the Lone Star Conference teams. Lubbock Christian led the league and finished 11th in the nation with a 3.775 GPA.
"The WBCA is pleased to recognize those women's basketball programs that have committed themselves to excellence on the court and in the classroom," said WBCA Executive Director Danielle Donehew. "The 119 ranked teams we honor this year across all five collegiate membership divisions strive to achieve all-around success, and we commend their efforts. Congratulations!"
The Rattlers had 11 student-athletes named to the Lone Star Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll earlier this spring, and three recorded a perfect 4.00 GPA in the spring in
Raynne Malik (London, Ontario, Canada),
Aina Maynou (Cabrera de Mar, Spain) and
Andrea Montesinos (Valencia, Spain).
