SAN ANTONIO — St. Mary's Women's Soccer closed out a 5-0 victory against Ouachita Baptist Sunday after a looming storm and a lightning delay stopped action with 18 minutes left to play.

When the match resumed as the lightning passed, freshman Rachel Gurinksy struck.

The Rattler newbie took control of the Tigers in the second half after the weather delay, recording her first career hat trick in nine minutes to help the Rattlers to their first win on the season.

Gurinsky (San Antonio) scored her first collegiate goal in the 72nd minute off a cross from Lynsie Shaw (Jr., San Antonio) and took it herself for the second and third goals of her career and for the match, beating the defense and taking it solo in the 80th and 81st minute.

The Rattlers went into the lightening delay with a 2-0 lead over Ouachita Baptist (0-2) with 18 minutes remaining, having scored one goal in the first half and after Shaw netted her first goal on the season in the 69th minute, assisted by Kaitie Kasperitis (Sr., Corpus Christi, Texas).

St. Mary's started its 5-0 shutout 51 seconds into the match when a well-placed corner kick from Brittney Lacek (Jr., Gillette, Wyo.) found Katy Primeaux (Fr., Keller, Texas) for her first collegiate goal to give the Rattlers an early 1-0 lead.

The Rattlers then found a scoring stride in the final frame fueled by Gurnisky to score four goals and end the match with 25 shots with 15 shot on goal.

Rattler defense held the Tigers to 11 shots for the match and impressive work from keeper Alyssa Taramona (Jr., Forney, Texas) kept them scoreless as she picked up nine saves in the shutout, improving to 1-1 on the season.

The Rattlers play their first road match of the season at 4 p.m. Tuesday against Texas A&M –Commerce in Commerce, Texas.
