EDMOND, Okla. — The St. Mary's University Women's Soccer team was unable to overcome a 2-0 deficit at Oklahoma Christian despite putting up a good fight, falling 2-1 on a dreary Saturday afternoon in Edmond.
Sophomore
Marily Garza Contreras (Duncanville, Texas) scored her first goal of the season on a blistering shot from outside the penalty box in the 57th minute to pull the Rattlers (5-5-2, 3-4-1) within one. Garza Contreras took the corner kick from the far side of the field and passed it short on the ground to freshman
Emilee Durante (San Antonio). Durante took the pass and sent it back to Garza Contreras, who nailed the kick into the far upper left corner of the net for the 2-1 tally.
The Eagles' Jenna Munson scored both goals, doing so in the 29th and 50th minutes. OC goalkeeper Breanna Wooten made eight saves, dashing the Rattlers' hopes of a comeback.
OC outshot StMU 18-to-16 in the contest, though the Rattlers took more shots in the second half, 9-to-8.
The Rattlers remain on the road, traveling to Sul Ross State in Alpine on Wednesday, Oct. 7 at 3:30 p.m. before hosting Angelo State on Saturday at 7 p.m.
