Rattlers win in extras, head to Super Regionals

SAN ANGELO, Texas — St. Mary's scored five runs in the top of the ninth inning to beat Angelo State 7-3 in extra innings to win the NCAA Division II South Central Region 2.

Freshman designated player Reagan Patterson had a two-out, bases-loaded RBI double to break open a 2-2 game in the top of the ninth, a lead the Rattlers would make 7-2 by the end of the inning.

Emily Brittain got the win in the circle for St. Mary's, improving to 30-6 on the season. During one stretch of the game, Brittain retired 15 straight batters and 20 of 21 batters after the teams left the first inning tied at 1-1.

The Rattlers (49-12) advance to take on No. 1-ranked West Texas A&M in the Super Regional, likely set to begin Friday in Canyon, Texas.

In the wild ninth inning, Amanda Villa also drove in two runs as did pinch-hitter Keanna Cisneros.

Nicole Sardelich went 2 for 5 at the plate with two runs scored, while Haley Richter went 2 for 3 with two RBI and two intentional walks. Villa finished 2 for 5 with two RBI and a run scored.

St. Mary's 49 wins mark its most since 2008 (53).
