StMU jumped out from the hatch, scoring in its first at-bat off a standup double from Reagan Patterson (Fr., Mineral Wells, Texas) that scored All-Conference First Teamer Nicole Sardelich (Jr., Angleton, Texas) and Haley Richter (Jr., Hondo, Texas) to put the Rattlers up early, 2-0.

Two runs for All-Conference First Team ace Emily Brittain (Sr., Corpus Christi, Texas) was all the run-support she needed as she tossed her 21st complete game in a lights out performance.

Brittain pitched a one-hitter against the Falcons (13-39), improving to 25-6 on the season in her 12th complete game on the season.

The No. 15 Rattlers smacked five hits in victory and picked up three stolen bases with Taylor Vidrine (Jr., San Antonio) going 2 for 3 and recording her 27th stolen base.

With the tournament-opening win, the Rattlers improved to a stout 44-12 on the season under the 2014 Heartland Conference Coach of the Year, Donna Fields.

The Rattlers will look to redeem themselves against the Hilltoppers, as they swept StMU in the regular-season finale, at 11 a.m. Friday at The Park at St. Mary's.

If the Rattlers pull out a victory against the Hilltoppers, StMU will advance to the Championship game at Noon Saturday. If they are not victorious, the will play at 4 p.m. Friday against the winner of the TAMIU and UTPB game from the loser's bracket.
