Box Score AUSTIN, Texas — Homers weren't enough for St. Mary's Softball this time as the Rattlers dropped the series finale against rival St. Edward's Saturday, 7-5.
A three-run blast from
Alex Rodriguez (Jr., Eagle Pass, Texas) in the fourth put the Rattlers on the board for the first time in the series finale against the Hilltoppers, but the damage was already done as a 13-hit victory from St. Edward's completed the sweep.
The Hilltoppers had their own three-run homer, hit in the third, which put them up 4-0 over the No. 11 Rattlers before adding another three-spot in the fourth to end the game, 7-5.
The Rattlers smacked 11 hits in the loss with
Alena Moreno (Fr., Pearland, Texas),
Taylor Vidrine (Jr., San Antonio) and
Miranda Medina (Fr., San Antonio) all recording two hits apiece.
With the loss, the Rattlers are now 43-12 on the season and 18-5 in Heartland Conference to end the regular-season as the league's No. 1.
Emily Brittain (Sr., Corpus Christi, Texas) was charged with the loss, dropping to 25-6 on the season.
The Rattlers host the Heartland Conference Championship Tournament as the tournament's No. 1 seed starting Thursday inside The Park at St. Mary's and are slated to play No. 4 seed Texas-Permian Basin in the opening round.
