No. 11 Rattler Softball drops series opener to rival St. Edward's

AUSTIN, Texas — The Rattlers peppered seven hits in the series opening loss against rival St. Edward's Friday afternoon, 7-2, overshadowing a dominant performance from Haley Richter at the plate.
 
Richter (Jr., Hondo, Texas) batted 1.000 against the Hilltoppers, going 3 for 3 to tally St. Mary's Softball's two RBI on the day which included an RBI-triple in the third.
 
Richter, now at blazing 55 RBIs on the season, first struck in the first with an RBI-single to give the Rattlers a 1-0 edge in what would be their only lead of the game.
 
The Hilltoppers (29-22, 12-10 in conference) would then score in every inning except the fourth to give starting Rattler pitcher Emily Brittain (Sr., Corpus Christi, Texas) just her fifth loss on the season.
 
Brittain fell to 24-5 on the season in 4 1/3 innings pitched while her Rattlers fell to 43-10 on the season and 18-3 in the Heartland Conference.
 
The No. 11 Rattlers will have an opportunity to win the series with a doubleheader starting at Noon in Austin, Texas.
