Box Score 2 SAN ANTONIO — In similar fashion to their previous weekend series in Wichita, Kan. against Newman, the St. Mary's Rattlers got off to a slow start in Game 1 of Friday's doubleheader against the Eagles of Oklahoma Christian University at Dickson Stadium, coming back to win Game 2 Friday.
The Rattlers fell in Game 1, 8-3 and surged in Game 2 to win it 2-0 to now hold a 31-15 overall record and 17-9 in Heartland Conference play.
After surrendering three runs in the first inning, the Rattlers battled back in their first at-bat after a leadoff double by
Brooks Orton and an RBI-single by
Drake Roberts. The Rattlers narrowed the gap to 3-2 by the end of the second inning.
However, the Rattlers would only go on to score one more run in the fifth while giving up five more runs to the Eagles during the rest of the seven inning game.
The Rattlers totaled six hits in the contest.
Mario Maldonado took the loss on the hill for the Rattlers.
Game 2 was once again a showing of a different St. Mary's team. Lead by the ace and team leader,
Rene Solis, the Rattlers played shutout baseball.
The Rattlers put up a run in the first two innings before being held down by the Eagles' bullpen, but it was more than enough for Solis, who threw nine innings of lights out baseball.
The Eagles were only able to scrape up four hits off the left-hander, while striking out eight times. Solis walked none in the complete-game shutout.
The Rattlers compiled nine hits in the game, lead by
Adrian Garcia and
Nathan Humpal, each with two.
The Rattlers will conclude the series tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m. on Senior Day at Dickson Stadium.
