AUSTIN, Texas — For the first time this season St. Mary's Baseball has dropped from the top spot in the league, falling a game behind rival St. Edward's after the Rattlers lost the heated series, 1-2.

No. 13 St. Mary's fell in the series finale Saturday to the No. 11 Hilltoppers 10-2, giving SEU a one game advantage in Heartland Conference standings.

The Rattlers are now 27-13 on the season and 14-7 in league play while the Hilltoppers are 28-11 overall and 15-6 in league play.

Eyes will surely been on both the Rattlers and Hilltoppers for the reminder of the season as the two teams continue to fight for the regular-season title and the right to host the Heartland Conference Championship Tournament with three conference series left.

St. Edward's started hot in Game 3 Saturday, scoring five runs in its first at-bat and then adding one more multiple-run inning in the sixth, scoring three.

Scott Jones (Jr., College Station, Texas) was responsible for the Rattlers' pair of runs, knocking in a run with an RBI-single in the fifth and ninth.

Jones went 3 for 4 at the plate while Brooks Orton (Jr., Cedar City, Utah) picked up his 26th stolen base on the season.

Matt McClain (Jr., San Antonio) was charged with the loss in the series finale, dropping to 6-3 on the season.

The Rattlers return home to play Tarleton State at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Dickson Stadium.
