KINGSVILLE, Texas — St. Mary's Softball's stats were spectacular Wednesday in the doubleheader sweep of regional contender Texas A&M-Kingsville. In other words, stats expected of one of the top teams in the nation.

Ranked No. 9 in the nation, Rattler Softball powered through the Javalinas 4-1 and 10-3 in Wednesday's doubleheader, improving to a strong 25-4 on the season to extend their win streak to seven.

A leadoff home run from Nicole Sardelich (Jr., Angleton, Texas) in Game One set the tone for the series at Vernie and Blanche Hubert Field, which ended with 24 hits and two Rattler homers as Daniele Nash went yard in Game Two.

Sardelich, currently batting a hot .426, added another RBI in her very next at-bat, with the Rattlers' RBI leader Haley Richter (Jr., Hondo, Texas) tacking on the final RBI in the seventh.

The Rattler bats in the 10-hit win backed Emily Brittain (Sr., Corpus Christi, Texas) on the mound as she tossed the complete game, allowing one earned run to improve to 14-3 on the season.

No. 9 St. Mary's hit a cycle in the 10-run stunner in Game Two with Nash (Jr., San Antonio) going yard in her first Rattler homer in the fifth.

Laura Benavidez (Jr., Robstown, Texas) smacked the triple in the cycle and four Rattlers recorded five doubles including Sardelich, Richter, Amanda Villa (Jr.. San Antonio) and Vianna Gutierrez (Jr., San Antonio), who recorded two.

Richter, Gutierrez and Nash all recorded two RBIs in the 14-hit victory that had Sarelich go 4-4 at the plate and the Rattlers score in every inning except two.

It was Gutierrez who picked up the win on the mound in Game Two, pitching the complete game with three earned runs and eight strikeouts. She is now 8-1 on the season.

The Rattlers compete in their second Heartland Conference series on the season against Oklahoma Panhandle State starting with a doubleheader at 3 p.m. Friday at the Softball Stadium.
