SAN ANTONIO — St. Marys' Softball has the week off, so what better time to reflect on what all the Rattlers have accomplished over the past two months?
Winners of 13 straight, St. Mary's (31-4 overall, 9-0 Heartland Conference) has climbed to No. 7 in the nation in the latest National Fastpitch Coaches Association poll.
If the Rattlers' winning streak sounds familiar, that's because it actually marks the second time this season they've reeled off 13 in a row. In fact, St. Mary's has won 27 of its past 28 games thanks to winning streaks of 14 and 13.
Oh, by the way, the national-championship-winning team of 2002 also won 13 in a row. Could this year's Rattlers be on the verge of another title chase? Only time will tell.
Until then, here's a deeper look inside St. Mary's dominance during its current 13-game winning streak:
0.64 — St. Mary's team ERA
.345 — Team batting average (.166 for opponent)
2 — Games decided by two or fewer runs
7 — Shutouts of opponents
8 — Games decided by seven or more runs
12 — Home runs hit
70 — Run differential (81 runs for St. Mary's compared to 11 for its opponents)
St. Mary's will be back in action Tuesday, when it travels to Denton, Texas to take on Texas Woman's for a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m.
