STEPHENVILLE, Texas — For the third time this season, St. Mary's Volleyball upset a Lone Star conference competitor.
This time it was Tarleton State which the Rattlers took in a five-set thriller Tuesday, winning 20-25, 23-22, 25-21, 10-25 and 18-16.
After claiming the first set over the Rattlers, the TexAnns (7-5) fell in the next two sets to spur in the fourth set to hold St. Mary's to 10 points. But the Rattlers were able to outlast the TexAnns in the fifth and final set that saw 10 tied scores to win it all. The Rattlers improved their overall record with the TexAnns to 11-4 in the pair's third straight five-set match.
Melissa Heft (Jr., San Antonio) was the kills-leader for the second straight match for the Rattlers, totaling 15 kills in Wisdom Gym Tuesday. Heft's match against the TexAnns came off her stellar performance against St. Edward's, which she totaled a career high 16 kills.
Lauren Holman (So., Rowlett, Texas) attacked well to lead both squads in hitting percentage at .370, totaling 13 kills in 27 total attacks.
Jenna Paul (So., Alvin, Texas) followed with 10 kills and a career-high two block solos.
The Rattlers' (5-6) defense helped secure their victory, tallying 11 total blocks to the TexAnns three.
Lauren Slaughter (Fr., San Antonio) and
Kelsey Huber (Jr., San Antonio) each led with four block assists each. Huber was also on the receiving end, totaling 20 digs for the second-highest on the team, and also had nine kills.

Victorria Martinez (Jr., Arlington, Texas) had a team-high 25 digs while setters
Rachael Scicchitano (Fr., McKinney, Texas) and
Mikayla Bass (So., Coppell, Texas) had 34 and 23 assists, respectively.
The Rattlers will have a double header this Saturday, facing Texas A&M International at noon and No. 12 West Texas A&M at 2:30 p.m., both at Bill Greehey Arena.
