Box Score

SAN ANTONIO — No. 11 St. Mary's Baseball had no answer for St. Edward's offensive onslaught Friday.

The Hilltoppers scattered seven runs over the first two innings to build what became a 12-run advantage in a 14-6 victory in the second round of the Heartland Conference Tournament.

St. Mary's (36-14) will face Texas A&M International in an elimination game at 12 p.m. Saturday at Incarnate Word's Sullivan Field. The game was originally scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday but was postponed due to inclement weather in the area.

The championship game, which will feature St. Edward's and the winner of the St. Mary's/TAMIU matchup, will take place at 3:30 p.m. Saturday. Should St. Edward's lose that game, the “if necessary” game would take place Sunday at a time to be determined.

Left fielder Derek Moczygemba (Sr., Bulverde, Texas) led the Rattlers with three RBIs on a 2-for-5 day at the plate. Brandon Bates, Adrian Garcia and Al Gonzalez also enjoyed multi-hit days.

Matt McClain struck out five, cracking 100 strikeouts on the season, but was tagged with the loss to drop to 8-4 on the year.

The winner of the Heartland tournament will receive an automatic bid to next week's NCAA Division II South Central Regional.
