SAN ANTONIO — With the Heartland Conference regular-season title already signed, sealed and delivered, St. Mary's Softball dropped its regular-season finale 3-0 to St. Edward's on Sunday at the SAISD Sports Complex.

The Battle of the Saints game also marked Senior Day for the Rattlers, who honored the careers of seniors Christina Rodriguez, Crystal Keller, Shelly Lee Zawadzki, Jared Gonzalez and Sarah Perez.

St. Edward's (28-19, 12-3 Heartland Conference) struck quickly in the regular-season finale for both teams, scoring once in the first inning and twice more in the second inning to build a lead the Rattlers (40-13, 14-1 Heartland Conference) could not overcome. The loss snapped St. Mary's 12-game winning streak.

The Rattlers outhit St. Edward's 7-6 but couldn't bring in runs when it mattered, as Katelyn Klug pitched the complete-game shutout to improve to 6-8 on the season for the Hilltoppers. Vianna Gutierrez was hung for the loss with St. Mary's, dropping her to 4-5 on the season.

The Rattlers will host the Heartland Conference Tournament, which is set to run Thursday-Saturday at the SAISD Sports Complex. Check back on RattlerAthletics.com early this week for the complete tournament schedule with game times.
