SAN ANTONIO — Both teams had similar records as the No. 1 and No. 2 seeds in the conference, and both games were tight Friday.

St. Mary's split the day with Texas A&M International in Friday's doubleheader, winning Game One 3-1 and falling just short in Game Two, 3-2.

Carl O'Neal (Sr., San Antonio) picked up his fifth win on the season in Game One, tossing six innings for three strikeouts. Jonathan Perez (RS-Sr., San Antonio) notched his fifth save on the season, inching him closer to the NCAA Division II record for most career saves set at 32. The All-Region closer is just six saves away from tying the record.

Mario Maldonado (So., Laredo, Texas) had half of the Rattlers' (15-5, 13-4 in conference) six hits in Game One, going 3-for-3 at the plate with a double and an RBI.

Derek Moczygemba (Sr., Bulverde, Texas) sliced an RBI double and Brandon Bates (Sr., Boerne, Texas) recorded the Rattlers' last RBI with a single in the fifth.

Game Two was stalemate until the fifth inning for the Rattlers and Dustdevils (10-4, 15-6 in conference), when a three-run inning for TAMIU proved to decide the game as it was the Dustdevils' only scoring inning.

The Rattlers picked up a run in the seventh off an RBI double from Al Gonzalez (RS-Fr., Pasedena, Texas) and again in the eighth with a sac fly from Maldonado, but were unable to score in their last at-bat to finish the game down one.

Moczygemba pitched seven innings to record his first loss on the season while Colter Bostick (Jr., Powell, Wyo.) finished the game, striking out two of his six batters faced.

The Rattlers will complete the series with the Dustdevils Saturday at Wolff Stadium at 12 p.m.
