STEPHENVILLE, Texas — It was a typical game for Rattler softball: home-run galore.
St. Mary's split the day with Tarleton State Tuesday, winning Game 1 10-4 with the help of four Rattlers going yard. Bad weather stunted the Rattlers' comeback in Game 2, as the contest was cut short after five innings due to weather with the TexAnns in the lead at the cutoff, 3-2, to record the win.
Nicole Sardelich (So., Angleton, Texas),
Taylor Vidrine (So., San Antonio),
Christina Rodriguez (Sr., San Antonio) and
Alex Rodriguez (So., El Pass, Texas) all picked up home runs in Game 1, three of which came in the fifth inning alone.
The Rattlers first struck in the third inning with a 3-RBI homer from Vidrine followed by solo shots from Sardelich and C. Rodriguez in the fifth. A. Rodriguez's two-run shot would end the Rattlers' four-run, home-run rally.
It was Sardelich and Vidrine who picked up the Rattlers' final three RBIs with Sardelich hitting in her 14th double on the season for a run in the sixth, while adding an RBI single in her last at-bat. Vidrine also belted an RBI single in the sixth. Sardelich would go on to smack her 15th double in Game 2.
Sardelich led the 11-hit Game 1 for the Rattlers, going 4-for-4 at the plate. Vidrine and A. Rodriguez each had two hits apiece.
Maricela Bissaro (Jr., San Antonio) recorded the win in Game 1 to improve to 2-2 on the season, tossing five innings.
Crystal Keller (Sr., LaCoste, Texas) pitched two innings in relief to close out the game with one strikeout.
Game 2 saw two quick runs by the TexAnns in the first (15-12), but the Rattlers battled back with an RBI single from
Shelly Lee Zawadzki (Sr., San Antonio) in the third and an RBI double from
Hannah Fields (Fr., San Antonio) in the fourth to tie it up, 2-2. The TexAnns picked up one more run in the fourth that would turn out to be the deciding factor in the shortened game.
Emily Brittain (Jr., Corpus Christi, Texas) recorded the loss to fall to 14-3 on the season, tossing all five innings with two strikeouts.
