KINGSVILLE, Texas — The Ratters made a bold return after losing two straight league games last weekend, stifling Texas A&M-Kingsville in a 10-2 victory Tuesday.
Billy Richard (Sr., Schertz, Texas) was the king of the nine-inning show, smacking a season-high five hits for the game in his six at-bats. Richard hit one of two Rattler doubles on the day with the second coming from
Al Gonzalez (RS-Fr., Pasedena, Texas), who also belted his first career home run Tuesday.
St. Mary's improved to 16-6 with its 18-hit victory over regional contender TAMUK (15-4), which beat the Rattlers in their first matchup earlier this season.
The Rattlers' power at the plate brought multiple-hit outings from several Rattlers. Richard led with five followed by Gonzalez and
Derek Moczygemba (Sr., Bulverde, Texas), who both had three hits apiece.
Ivan Sigala (Sr., El Paso, Texas) and
Mario Maldonado (So., Laredo, Texas) each tailed two hits.
Brandon Bates (Sr., Boerne, Texas), Maldonado and Gonzalez also picked up two RBI apiece, with Gonzalez's two-run blast coming in the seventh inning.
The Rattlers were just as effective on the mound with
Nathan Humpal (Jr., Corpus Christi, Texas) recording his first Rattler start and win following a quality start, tossing five innings. Humpal scattered five hits for two unearned runs.
Greg Dobb (RS-Fr., Keller, Texas) earned his second appearance on the season Tuesday, pitching three innings in relief for two strikeouts.
Jonathan Perez (RS-Sr., San Antonio) closed out the victory, tossing the final inning.
The Rattlers hope to keep their momentum alive and start another winning steak that peaked at nine earlier this season.
